Are you in need of a Getaway? If So Bristol, Rhode Island is the place to go.

I recently experienced a major loss in my life which made the thought of staying home unbearable. So when the opportunity was presented to me to go on a quick trip, I was on the next plane out. Well, maybe not the very next one out, but I was on a plane, destination Bristol, Rhode Island the following few days.

This city of Bristol is so beautiful that it made the trip very therapeutic. It wouldn’t be fair for me to keep it to myself.

In the next few paragraphs, I am going to share with you Bristol Rhode Island through my eyes and lenses!

Bristol is believed to be home to the oldest continuous 4th of July celebrations dating back to 1777. Bristol is also home to Roger Williams University, named after the founder of the city himself, Roger Williams. That university is the reason why I ended up in Bristol. My sister has been attending the school of law at Roger Williams for the past year and thought, it’d be a great time for me to visit.

There is a multitude of activities to partake in Bristol Rhode Island.

Being the city girl that I am, I didn’t expect to enjoy being there for more than an hour. I traveled there with low expectations. After all, I only went to escape my reality. Little did I know, Bristol, Rhode Island turned out to be one the most beautiful place I’ve visited thus far in the US. The calm and serenity of that place will quickly have you sing its praises.

I got the pleasure of visiting a few different places that are certainly worth mentioning and you should put on your list if you plan on making a stop there.

  • Blithewold Mansion Gardens & Arboretum. We spent a few hours getting lost in the gardens and arboretum, basking in the sun, cameras in hand, and snapping pictures every chance we got. The scenery is to die for and it is truly a sight to see. The property can host a variety of events such as weddings.
  • Colt State Park, which is the main park in the city.
  • Mt Hope Bridge is a beautiful 6130 ft bridge that connects Bristol to the town of Newport by way of Portsmouth. The best time to really admire the beauty of the bridge is at night when the lights come on.

If you don’t want to stay solely in Bristol, You can also go to its neighboring towns.

Newport is only about 25-30 minutes south of Bristol. Newport is home to The infamous Cliff Walk. I had fallen in love with Cliff Walk through photos before I even knew I’d go there. So of course, I had to make my way there and experience its beauty with my own eyes.

We made it a day trip. It started off with brunch at Tickets Bar & Grill, then we went and got our toes wet in the ocean. Being from the Caribbean, I can’t swim in cold water, and the water in Rhode Island during this time of the year is C-O-L-D. We were able to frolic around and take some pictures. When it was all said and done, we decided it was time to go catch the sunset at the top of Forty Steps of the Cliff Walk.

The walk is said to be about 3.5 miles with 5 different segments. I only made it to the first one which takes you from Memorial Blvd to Forty Steps.

It did not disappoint. The view was truly a sight to see!

If you’re looking for places to eat in Bristol Rhode Island, there is a good variety.

You can hit up Bristol Waterfront Historic District where you’ll get to experience different types of cuisines. Although I did not dine out much, I was able to get away a little bit to enjoy some sushi at Baba Sushi, a cozy little place overlooking the harbor with great affordable sushi and delicious cocktails.

We stopped for some delicious ice cream at Gray’s Ice Cream. My husband is a big fan of Ice cream, although he is lactose intolerant, (don’t tell him I told you).

My husband also discovered this beautiful cafe named The Beehive Cafe where he literally got us breakfast most mornings. They make the most delicious pancakes. My favorite was the Bacon & Brown Sugar pancakes. They are to die for!
