10 Makeup Essentials Every Woman Should Own

For Your Face.

Primer| A primer is essential because that is the foundation of everything you put on your face. The primer evens out your skin, allows everything else to go on smoothly, and helps your makeup last longer. Try applying your makeup with and without primer and you will see the difference. I recommend The Fenty Beauty ProFilt’r Primer. It applies well to the skin whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin.

Foundation| Foundation is high on the list of makeup essentials because it creates a blank, uniform canvas for your makeup application. It evens out your skin and it’s a great way to hide any imperfections. I recommend the Urban Decay Stay Naked Weightless Foundation due to its buildable coverage ability. It is my favorite foundation to use at the time. *Update: this foundation has been discontinued. See alternatives below.*

Concealer| Concealer is great for hiding just about anything on your face. Concealers can be used to hide dark circles, blemishes, and large pores. For some, concealers may be all they need. However, if you want to quick it up a notch, use your concealer to highlight and contour certain areas of your face. I love the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. It is great to hide just anything on your face.

Bronzer|  A bronzer adds dimension but also warmth to your face. If contouring is not really your thing, you can use a bronzer to lightly carve out your face. My favorite bronzer to use is the Hoola Matte Bronzer from Benefit Cosmetics

Makeup Essentials For your eyes.

Eyebrow Pencil| Your eye area is one of the first things people notice when they look at you. That’s why your eyebrows should be done at all times. For that, I recommend the Precisely My Brow from Benefit Cosmetics. This eyebrow pencil is the easiest I’ve used in all my years of carving out my eyebrows.

Eye Shadow Palette| One of my favorite parts of doing my makeup is applying eyeshadow. Eyeshadows can take your look from blah to stunning in an instant. Therefore, you should own at least one eyeshadow palette. Start with neutral colors if you are new to makeup.  If you mess up, it won’t be so noticeable. I am currently obsessing over Fenty Beauty’s Snap Shadow Palettes.  They have a wide variety of neutrals. These palettes are easy to work with, no matter your expertise level. Did I mention they are also very convenient to fit in any makeup bag!?!

Mascara| One coat of mascara can elevate your entire look. That’s why I think mascara deserves a spot in every woman’s makeup essentials. I have been loving everything about the Bad Gal Bang Mascara from Benefit. The applicator brush is multi-faceted and works for both top and bottom lashes.

Finish off your look.

Lip Gloss|  Every woman needs a good lip gloss to carry around their makeup bag. Lip gloss adds moisture and shine and can even add volume. It is easy to apply and doesn’t create any mess. Pair it with a good lip liner and you are good to go!  My favorite to use is the Milani Lip Plumper in Prismatic Peach.  I love to pair it with my lip liner from Mac in the shade Half red. It is the perfect lip combo!

Setting Powder| A setting powder keeps your makeup looking good longer. One of the worst mistakes you can make is to not set your makeup, especially if you have oily skin as I do. I recommend  The Laura Mercier Setting Powder.

Setting Spray| A setting spray is the ultimate makeup essential. A setting spray brings everything together and keeps your makeup from budging. I like the All Nighter Setting Spring from Urban Decay. This is great, especially if you have oily skin. It keeps your oils under control, longer.

There you have it! These are the 10 makeup essentials you really need.

Anything else you get after these is extra.
