The Secret to a Defined Wash and Go on Type 4 Kinky Coily Hair

Secret to a successful wash and go on type 4 kinky coily hair| leaveit2nessa.com

Have you ever tried a wash and go on your type 4 kinky coily hair only to end up with no “definition”, no “clumpage” and your hair looking a hot mess?

If that’s you, then this is for you!

Up until recently my wash and go’s were a complete disaster (although I swore they looked bomb). It wasn’t until I tried the Curlmix method that I finally realized that my wash and go’s were trash. So today, I thought I would share with you how you too can get a successful well-defined wash and go on your type 4 hair. If you want to know more, keep on reading!

There’s really no secret to getting a defined wash and go on type 4 hair.

There’s just a specific technique you want to make you follow to guarantee the best outcome. I used to do some of the steps of that method, but not all. I found out the key to getting a defined wash and go on your type 4 kinky coily hair is to follow all the steps religiously, each time.

  1. Moisture

You always want to make sure that you’re using moisturizing products because moisture is key to a great wash and go. If your hair is not properly moisturized, you won’t get the desired results.

  2. Detangle Well

Your hair needs to be well detangled. Take your time to properly detangle your hair, either with a wide-tooth comb, or a detangling brush. If your hair is very kinky, you may want to use both just like I do. This will ensure you get rid of all the kinks before you start your wash and go. Detangling usually happens while conditioning.

  3. Work in small sections

If you are type 4 kinky coily hair, you will find it easier to work in small sections. My advice is to part your hair into 4 big sections, then part these sections into smaller sections as you detangle. Once you’re done working with each small section, twist it up and leave it alone until you’re ready to rinse out your deep conditioner.

  4. Do not use detangling tools (after conditioning hair)

Once your hair is properly detangled, twist it up and lose the detangling tools (comb, brush). This will make or break your wash and go.

  5. Do not play with hair after clumping

After you apply your moisturizer and your gel (or whatever you’re using for your wash and go) to one section, and you rake your products into that section of your hair, use a hair tie to tuck it away, and move on to the next section and repeat the same process until you complete your whole head. Once done, remove the hair ties, give your head a good shake, and voila!

  6. Complete steps 1-5 in the shower (while hair is dripping wet)

  7. Do not air dry (use handheld dryer)

This is another very important step that can make or break your wash and go. You want to make sure that you dry your hair right away. Don’t let it air dry and don’t sit under a hooded dryer. You want to use a handheld dryer and use what’s called the blowdown method.
